Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali
Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar graduated with a BSc (Economics) from the Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1970. He furthered his studies during his early years as a tutor and lecturer at UKM. He obtained his master’s and PhD from the University of Leicester and the University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom.
He has been appointed the Chancellor of the University of Cyberjaya since September 2019. He also has been appointed as a Member of the Board of Governors of Meritus University Kuala Lumpur since 2017. Previously, he was the President/Vice Chancellor of Open University Malaysia (OUM) for 12 years from 2004 to 2015. Prior to the appointment, he was the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for a period of five (5) years (1998-2003).
When he joined UKM as a tutor in 1973, he established himself as an economist (in industrial planning and human resource development) and an academic leader. He was the first academic to be posted to the Ministry of Education as its Director of Higher Education (1996-1998). Before that, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, UKM and after that, as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs). Before joining UKM, he was an Assistant Director at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (1970-1973).
