Poster Guideline

•    Your poster title and contents should correspond to the title and content of the abstract you submitted.
  
•    Your poster must be designed to fit an A1 size posterboard, and the poster should be printed on materials that can be    mounted easily with push pins.
  
•    Plan your poster to be in logical sequence, i.e. introduction, study design and methods, results and conclusion.
  
•    Posters should be designed for clear viewing from a distance of beyond 3' so that they can be viewed by a number of people at the
     same time.
  
•    To ensure visual effectiveness of your poster, use large lettering and a minimum of text. Use of colour and clear images can    visually enhance your poster.
  
•    Put your poster up at least 1/2 hour prior to the start of the poster sessions of the conference.
  
•    Remove your poster immediately at the close of the poster session.

Paper Guideline

•    This model paper contains information about the formatting requirements for the International Journal of Social Research and    Innovation (IJSRI).
  
•     Format your paper in Times New Roman 12 points throughout with single line spacing, using bold and italics as appropriate.
•     Do not use any formatted styles other than bullets where required for lists.
•     We will apply all other styles when the paper is typeset.
•     The paper should not exceed A4 size 15 pages, including the abstract, figures and references, and references should be in the APA style (see below for further details).
•     The abstract should be no less than 150 words and should not exceed 300 words.

 A Simple Understanding of Intellect Awakening and Innovation

Keynote Address Abstract: Understanding the concept of innovation and what Sabieh calls her effective Teaching/Learning equation leads to a road that enables the intellect to be awakened if and only if confidence is the key player in the formula. Sabieh will allude to diversities in teaching methodologies, will address learning needs and styles, will question role changes to promote learning centering, and will identify tool presence and usage and resource richness and availability, striving for creativity in activity planning, and assessing alternative to measure the learning. Innovation inspired, indeed. Students and learning spaces considered, definitely. Intellect awakened, hopefully! Biography: Through her teaching, administrative posts, teacher-training, and research, Dr. Christine Sabieh, a Professor at Notre Dame University, keeps up her interest in Educational Psychology, Language Teaching and Assessment, Educational Technology, Leadership and Management, and Professional Development. Her current research includes OER, Assessment, PBL, CBL, Blended and flipped Classrooms, Distance Learning, ESP, and Teacher Training. An advocate of CALL, she is a Certified On-Line Instructor/Trainer. She has served the Lebanese Psychological Association (Founding member & President for five years), ASIACALL (President for five years), TESOL (CALL-IS Steering Committee for six years), TESOLArabia (as contributor to activities, publications, Testing SIG member-at-large), and AACE (SITE, E-Learn, EdMedia &Global). Dr. Sabieh is TESOL’s CALL-IS Chair for 2018-2019.

 Exploitation and Abuse of Fishers in the Global Fishing Industry

Keynote Address Abstract: There are about sixteen and a half million fishers globally. While the majority are small scale fishers (SSF), about 1.5 million are engaged in distant water fishery (DWF). This study looks at the plights of these fishers due to ever increasing efforts for harvesting dwindling resources of fish stocks. While much of the findings is based on the book ‘Fishers and Plunderers: Theft, Slavery and Violence at Sea’, it is also based on additional literature review and subsequent fieldwork in the Asian region, which includes discussions with fishers and other stakeholder. It is evident that fishers from both (SSF and DWF) sectors are abused and marginalised. While states lease out their seas to foreign vessels for a royalty at the expense of the SSF and the small industries they support ashore, in the DWF sector, unscrupulous ship-owners in their relentless pursuit of depleting stocks in a highly competitive industry, resort to inhumane practices of trafficking and enslaving migrant workers and subjecting them to extreme living and working conditions leading to violence deaths and murders. The contesting claims for overlapping Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) by states further aggravates the problem by using fishers as pawns towards legitimising their territorial claims, leading to arrests of fishers. The existing international, regional and national laws, agreements and guidelines are often disregarded adding to the woes of the fishers. It is evident that there is a strong link between depletion fish stocks and the abuse of fishers. Governments, NGOs and the general public need to play their part towards mitigating the prevailing conditions of the fishers and thus also help towards the sustainability of fish stocks.

Biography: Dr Azmath Jaleel is a researcher at Cardiff University and a consultant to Seafarers’ Rights International, London. His research interests include maritime and marine management with focus on the welfare and human rights of people working at sea. He has a PhD. in maritime transport policy from Cardiff University, MSc. in Shipping Management from the World Maritime University, Technical Diploma in Marine Engineering from Singapore Polytechnic, and is a Class 1 Marine Engineer and Chartered Marine Technologist. He has sea-going experience and has also worked in maritime administration where he was responsible for seafarers’ education, training and licensing, as well as carrying out statutory surveys of ships including PSC inspections. Dr Jaleel has provided consultancy services to a number of organisations including the Asian Development Bank and the European Commission on maritime and marine environment related projects, and has published academic papers and made contributions to books. He has also made keynote presentations in international conferences and seminars in several Asian countries and also in Europe.
